There were some bugs on beta2 and maybe IE7 did not work for you. Please try this beta3 with some fixes. Download it here. When running remember to include --beta-install-ie7 as a command-line option.

Thanks for everybody for testing this and helping me make this work πŸ˜‰

IE7 is coming to IEs 4 Linux: 2.1 beta2 released

Sunday, October 22nd, 2006

This beta is the first one to include IE7 support. Download it now. To test this, run the ies4linux executable with –beta-install-ie7 command-line option.

The install procedure is basically the same idea I posted about RC1, but better. I included some other things and made some registry corrections (conditional comments works now).

The main problem today, that some people noted is that gif images do not work properly (they are black). Also, there is a problem with https. And it seems to crash a lot (including when visiting IEs4Linux website ;-).

Remeber that IEs4Linux currently only install IE7 engine, that is why the window looks like IE6. But is is IE7 πŸ˜‰ If you have any idea to improve IEs4Linux IE7 support, please email me. This installation process still is very beta and needs huge improvements.

If you like this project and appreciate all this hard work, please consider a contribution. Thanks!

The procedure is all automatic, but remember that you must own a valid Windows License. This beta also includes the GUI written in PyGTK as default.

What about IE7?

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Today (October 18) MS released IE7 final for Windows XP SP2. Many people are asking me about IEs4Linux support. I’m working on IE7 now to support at least its engine on Linux. As soon as I get more concrete results I will tell you.

Last weeks, IEs4Linux got many attention all over the world. Many users are interested on this project, because they (unfortunatelly) need IE. I’m working hard to make IEs4Linux better each day. And IE7 is a very big priority. So, wait a few more days πŸ˜‰

And if you would like to support this project and all this research, please consider a contribution.

Also, last days IEs4Linux 2.0.5 was released. Changelog:

  • Changed cp -r to cp -PR to be compatible with FreeBSD (thanks to Piotr Smyrak)
  • Changed iconv call not trying to discover system encoding
  • Beta GUI updated: please run ./ies4linux –beta-gui

IEs4Linux 2.0.4 (2.1 beta). Feedback needed

Friday, October 6th, 2006

Today I launched 2.0.4 with some improvements. I also included a beta User Interface. It is written in python using pygtk. Please use –beta-gui , test this new feature and let me know what you think.

I plan to include a qt version as soon as we finish this gtk version. And after everything is ok, it will be released as 2.1 with GUI enabled by default.

Download IEs4Linux 2.0.4 here.
Also, see this screenshot of our new installer.

New stuff:

  • Beta: Graphical installer written in python+pygtk (use –beta-gui to test)
  • New translations: Latvian (thanks to Girts Strazdins), Bahasa Melayu (thanks to ReaLSyLo) and Indonesian (thanks to Teguh as)
  • Updated translations: Catalan (thanks to Pere Barceló) and Finish
  • New command-line option: –no-color

And thanks for everyone that is helping this project. Last weeks we had a very huge traffic after some important sites had linked here. I’m trying to answer to most mail and forum topics πŸ™‚
